“Coffee and Cigarettes” (コーヒー＆シガレッツ), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 2003, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) P39

This is an original Japanese B2 poster for Jim Jarmusch’s cult anthology Coffee and Cigarettes—a sharp, deadpan mosaic of black-and-white encounters where conversation, caffeine, and nicotine become their own kind of ritual. Sought after internationally and especially hard to find in Japan, this is the first time we’ve had this title back in stock in a long time.

Film background
Released in 2003 (expanding on earlier shorts), Coffee and Cigarettes strings together vignettes featuring an improbably brilliant roster—musicians, comedians, actors—caught in intimate, awkward, funny, and quietly tense table-top conversations. Jarmusch’s rhythm is pure minimalism: silences, glances, and tiny power shifts, all framed by the familiar geometry of café tables and the recurring motif of the cigarette break.

Poster design
A perfect visual summary of the film’s tone: a stark, overhead café image in crisp monochrome—coffee cups, ashtray, cigarettes, a chessboard table—paired with bold Japanese typography and the striking red ampersand. It’s clean, modern, and instantly recognisable on a wall: a design that feels as much like graphic art as it does a film poster.

Rarity and condition
This copy was displayed at the time, and carries that authentic cinema-used presence —light handling wear and minor surface imperfections consistent with display (please see the photos for exact details). Once framed, it presents with excellent impact: the blacks stay rich, the whites stay clean, and the red “&” remains a strong focal point. We have taken the condition into account when pricing.
