Ghost Cat: Curse of the Pond (Japanese title: 怪猫呪いの沼, Kaibyō Noroi no Numa) is a 1968 Japanese jidaigeki-horror film directed by Yoshihiro Ishikawa (石川義寛) and produced by Toei. Front-lined by Kōtarō Satomi, Ryōhei Uchida, and Kyōko Mikage, it belongs to the kaibyō (ghost-cat) sub-genre that thrilled late-1960s audiences with tales of supernatural vengeance.

Set in feudal Japan, the story begins when a scheming retainer murders a courtesan and her loyal cat beside a mist-shrouded marsh. Their restless spirits merge, returning as a shape-shifting feline demon to prey upon the men responsible. As thunder cracks over the reed-choked swamp, disfiguring claw marks, eerie caterwauls, and blood-drenched visions drive the guilty toward madness. Blending period drama swordplay with gothic set pieces, Ishikawa’s film delivers a vivid mix of sensual intrigue and animalistic terror—an essential entry in Japan’s “ghost-cat” cycle.

It is over 57 years old!
