"D.O.A.: A Rite of Passage" (D.O.A. 伝説のパンクス、セックス・ピストルズ), Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1981, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA176
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1981 for Lech Kowalski’s raw, era-defining punk documentary D.O.A.: A Rite of Passage (1980). Shot during and around the Sex Pistols’ ill-fated 1978 U.S. tour, the film captures the movement’s chaotic lightning-in-a-bottle—live sets, backstage fragments, street interviews, and fellow travelers including The Clash, Iggy Pop, Sham 69, Generation X, and the Dead Boys.
Design
A razor-edged illustration in toxic green and bruised purples: a deluxe vintage car looms over a sprawled punk with safety-pin jewelry, collar chain, and feral yellow eyes. Handwritten pink D.O.A. crashes across the bottom like wet paint, with bilingual credits and a strip of Japanese copy down the sides trumpeting the shock and heat of ’70s punk. It’s a perfect Japan-market visual—sleek luxury meeting gutter nihilism.
