“Dead & Buried” (ゾンゲリア), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1981, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O525

Sale price $110.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1981 for the first Japanese theatrical release of Dead & Buried (ゾンゲリア), directed by Gary A. Sherman and distributed in Japan by Nippon Herald Films (日本ヘラルド映画).

The film is an atmospheric zombie‑mystery hybrid, scripted by Alien co‑writer Ronald Shusett and Dan O’Bannon, with memorable makeup effects supervised by Stan Winston.

Film background
Set in the fog‑shrouded coastal town of Potters Bluff, the story follows sheriff Dan Gillis as he investigates a series of brutal murders of passing tourists. To his horror, the supposed victims begin turning up alive—and apparently integrated into the local community. As Dan digs deeper, he discovers the town mortician’s grotesque experiments with “perfecting” death and the horrifying truth about his neighbours. Dead & Buried is renowned for its bleak twist ending, eerie small‑town atmosphere and shocking set‑pieces.

Poster design
The Japanese B2 uses a bold collage layout to evoke both gore and mystery. Across the top, orange and white copy shouts questions about whether even a beloved wife could be a zombie, accompanied by black‑and‑white stills of bandaged corpses, shattered glass and terrified faces. The centre is dominated by a colour close‑up of the heroine’s face, framed by dark hair and shadow, while to the right a group of townspeople in coats stand in a desolate landscape, hinting at the town’s conspiratorial nature. The deep‑red brushstroke title 「ゾンゲリア」 splashes across the bottom, with the small English logo DEAD & BURIED tucked to one side, and the credit block and distributor line running along the lower edge.
