"Death Laid an Egg (殺しを呼ぶ卵)", Original Japanese “Longest Version” Theatrical Poster 2023 (for 1968 film), B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O255

Sale price $100.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster issued for the 2023 domestic re-release of Giulio Questi’s cult giallo-surrealist masterpiece La morte ha fatto l’uovo (Death Laid an Egg, 1968) in its “Longest Version / 最長版.” A jagged satire of consumer capitalism set inside a mechanised chicken farm, the film stars Jean-Louis Trintignant, Gina Lollobrigida, and Ewa Aulin. Co-written and edited with visionary cutter Franco Arcalli, scored by modernist composer Bruno Maderna, and shot by Dario Di Palma, it has grown from an Italian oddity into a cornerstone of late-1960s experimental crime cinema—treasured by collectors for its audacity, political bite, and hallucinatory montage.

Film background
Released in 1968 at the height of the giallo boom, Questi’s film explodes genre expectations: boardroom intrigue and erotic jealousy collide with genetic engineering and automated slaughter lines. Its fractured editing, musique concrète textures, and pop-modern production design influenced later art-horror and post-giallo filmmakers and remain a touchstone in discussions of cinema’s critique of industrialised food production and late-capitalist desire.

Poster design
A striking photo-montage one-sheet built around a flaming crash still: a compact car lies inverted and ablaze while a blood-splattered woman in a citrus dress strides past a prone body—an arresting, near-apocalyptic tableau that distils the film’s violence and alienation. Across the smoke-choked sky, the distressed white title 「殺しを呼ぶ卵」 sits bold and tactile, with a vertical tag line mid-field:
「卵が先か、殺しが先か」—Which came first, the egg or the killing?
Along the foot run the bilingual billing block and studio marks (EURO INTERNATIONAL FILMS / SUMMA, etc.), plus Japanese release details and the 映倫 PG12 rating. Thumbnail portraits of the three leads punctuate the lower border beside the Italian title cartouche LA MORTE HA FATTO L’UOVO, confirming the longest-cut revival campaign.
