"Derzu Uzala" (デルス・ウザーラ), Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1975, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) H100A

Sale price $220.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1975 for Akira Kurosawa’s Dersu Uzala—his poetic, Soviet-Japanese co-production that won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. A wilderness epic and humanist fable, it marked Kurosawa’s triumphant return after a difficult period and is revered for its lyrical naturalism and philosophical depth.

Design
A monumental sunset dominates the sheet—an incandescent orange disc against deep crimson, with four explorers rendered as stark silhouettes along the tundra. The minimalist English/Japanese bilingual titling (“A Film of AKIRA KUROSAWA / DERSU UZALA” beneath the giant Japanese headline デルス・ウザーラ) keeps the eye on the elemental landscape. The composition communicates scale, solitude, and the film’s central theme: man measured against nature.

Cult status / film notes
Kurosawa’s only 70mm production and one of his most visually ravishing films; celebrated for Yuri Gantman and Fyodor Dobronravov’s location work and for Kurosawa’s contemplative pacing. Its influence reaches contemporary “slow cinema” and survival dramas alike.
