“Diamonds Are Forever” (ダイヤモンドは永遠に), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1971, B3 Size (37 × 53 cm) ZA1182

Sale price $130.00

This is an original Japanese B3 theatrical poster printed in 1971 for the first Japanese release of Diamonds Are Forever, the seventh official James Bond film produced by Eon Productions and the sixth to star Sean Connery as 007. Directed by Guy Hamilton, the film also stars Jill St. John, Charles Gray, Lana Wood, Jimmy Dean, and Bruce Cabot.

Film background

Released in 1971, Diamonds Are Forever marked Sean Connery’s return to the Bond series following On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. The film moves from diamond-smuggling intrigue to Las Vegas spectacle, moon-buggy chases, and the reappearance of Blofeld, giving it a flamboyant, high-camp energy very much of its era. For collectors, it remains one of the key Connery-era Bond titles, representing the moment when the series leaned fully into grand-scale glamour, eccentric villains, and increasingly extravagant set pieces.

Poster design

This is a striking and highly collectible Japanese design. The front uses dynamic painted artwork built around Sean Connery as Bond, flanked by glamorous female figures, explosions, helicopters, and large-scale action imagery, all anchored by the bold red 007 logo and Japanese title. It has exactly the kind of vivid, oversized spectacle that collectors want from early-1970s Bond paper.

What makes this example especially interesting is its B3 format with a fully printed reverse. The back is not blank: it carries extensive Japanese text, cast and staff credits, and a series of film stills, making the piece both an attractive display poster and a fascinating period document of the film’s original Japanese campaign. Smaller Japanese Bond campaign sheets of this kind have a distinctive appeal because they combine poster art with editorial-style promotional content.
