“Diamonds Are Forever” (007/ダイヤモンドは永遠に), Original Japanese Movie Poster 1971, First Release, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O89
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1971 for the first domestic theatrical release of Diamonds Are Forever (007/ダイヤモンドは永遠に), produced by Eon Productions and released in Japan by United Artists (ユナイト映画). First-issue Japanese sheets for Sean Connery’s return to the role are a staple of Bond collections.
Film background
Directed by Guy Hamilton, the seventh Eon entry brings James Bond to Las Vegas to trace a diamond-smuggling ring that leads back to Ernst Stavro Blofeld. The film stars Sean Connery with Jill St. John, Charles Gray, Lana Wood, and Jimmy Dean, with music by John Barry and the iconic title song performed by Shirley Bassey. Set-pieces include the moon-buggy escape, the Mustang Mach 1 two-wheel alley stunt, and the oil-rig finale.
Poster design
A classic Japanese montage: a large painted portrait of Bond with Walther PPK anchors the sheet, flanked by gyrocopters, the moon-buggy chase, and the Las Vegas strip, with supporting cast vignettes. The oversized red “007” device and the bold katakana title 「ダイヤモンドは永遠に」 sweep the lower field. The Eirin censorship seal appears at lower right alongside the United Artists credit—hallmarks of a first domestic issue.
