Sale price $115.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for Dogma / 「ドグマ」, printed for the film’s first Japanese theatrical release in 2000. Japanese release records list the film’s domestic opening as 8 July 2000.

Written and directed by Kevin Smith, Dogma stars Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Linda Fiorentino, Salma Hayek, Jason Lee, Jason Mewes, Alan Rickman, and Chris Rock. The film is one of Smith’s most ambitious and controversial works: a profane, irreverent, and surprisingly theological comedy about fallen angels, Catholic doctrine, apocalypse, and the absurdity of organised belief.

Film background
Dogma follows two banished angels, Bartleby and Loki, who discover a loophole that could allow them back into Heaven. Unfortunately, exploiting that loophole would also undo the structure of existence itself. Standing in their way is an unlikely group including a reluctant descendant of Christ, the thirteenth apostle, a muse, and Smith’s recurring comic duo Jay and Silent Bob.

The film sits within Smith’s larger View Askewniverse, but is more expansive than his earlier work, combining road comedy, religious satire, fantasy, and late-1990s independent-film attitude. Its mixture of theological provocation and pop-cultural comedy made it one of the most talked-about American comedies of its period.

Poster design
This Japanese B2 poster uses a bold, stripped-down red composition centred on Matt Damon and Ben Affleck as the fallen angels Loki and Bartleby. The two actors stand against a deep red background, dressed in black, with large angel wings behind them.

Across the centre, the main Japanese tagline reads:

「訳あって世の中、ブッ壊すことにしました。」
“For various reasons, we decided to wreck the world.”

The title DOGMA appears in large gold lettering across the lower half, with the Japanese title 「ドグマ」 beneath. The lower credits highlight Damon and Affleck as the Academy Award-winning duo from Good Will Hunting, while also noting Kevin Smith’s connection to Chasing Amy.

The design is simple but highly effective: red field, angelic imagery, deadpan Japanese copy, and a large metallic title treatment. It captures the film’s central contradiction — sacred iconography treated with irreverent comedy.
