This is an original Japanese B1 theatrical poster produced for the 1993 Toei Summer Anime Fair (東映アニメフェア ’93夏). The programme brought together Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound, Yu Yu Hakusho: The Movie, and Dr. Slump and Arale-chan: Ncha! From Penguin Village with Love, combining three celebrated manga adaptations on one colourful promotional sheet.
Film background
Released in Japan on 10 July 1993, the triple programme formed part of Toei’s seasonal anime screenings, which presented several animated films together during the school holidays.
Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound, released in Japan as Dragon Ball Z: Ginga Giri-Giri!! Butchigiri no Sugoi Yatsu, places Gohan at the centre of a battle against Bojack and his followers after a martial arts tournament becomes a fight for survival. Its emphasis on Gohan is reflected in his commanding position in the poster.
Yu Yu Hakusho: The Movie marked the first theatrical outing for Yoshihiro Togashi’s supernatural action series, while Dr. Slump and Arale-chan: Ncha! From Penguin Village with Love brought Akira Toriyama’s mischievous android and the inhabitants of Penguin Village back to the cinema.
Together, the three titles connect the worlds of Toriyama and Togashi, whose manga reached readers through Weekly Shōnen Jump.
Poster design
A large Super Saiyan Gohan dominates the centre, his sharply defined golden hair and orange fighting outfit creating a strong focal point. At the upper left, Goku appears with a halo, while surrounding panels feature familiar characters including Vegeta, Trunks, Piccolo, and Krillin.
The right side introduces the other films against a vivid yellow background. Arale, wearing her distinctive winged cap and glasses, appears above the Dr. Slump title, accompanied by the Gatchans and a lively supporting cast.
Below, Yusuke Urameshi leads the Yu Yu Hakusho section, with Kuwabara, Hiei, and Kurama arranged behind him. His forward-thrust fist echoes the energy of Gohan’s central stance.
Diagonal blue bands decorated with pink stars divide the character groups. Across the top, oversized red Japanese lettering announces “Summer! Tremendous impact! A super-powerful triple feature!!” The ’93 Summer Toei Anime Fair emblem identifies the campaign.
About B1 posters
Japanese B1 posters, measuring approximately 72.8 × 103 cm, offer around twice the surface area of the standard B2 format. The larger scale gives this densely illustrated design considerable presence, allowing the individual characters and three film titles to remain clearly distinguishable.
