“E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial”, Original Japanese Re-Release Movie Poster 2002, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O2

Sale price $110.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 2002 for the Japanese theatrical release of E.T. 20周年アニバーサリー特別版, the 20th anniversary special edition of Steven Spielberg’s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. So although the film itself first opened in 1982, this specific poster is for the 2002 Japanese re-release, which opened on 27 April 2002 through UIP.

Film background
Originally released in 1982, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial became one of the defining fantasy films of modern cinema, telling the story of the bond between a lonely boy and a stranded alien visitor. The 20th anniversary edition revisited the film with added footage, updated visual effects, and remastered sound, bringing Spielberg’s classic back to cinemas for a new generation while preserving the emotional core that made it a worldwide phenomenon.

Poster design
A superb and instantly recognisable Japanese design built around the film’s most iconic visual idea: the moonlit bicycle flight. Here, that famous silhouette is set against a huge glowing full moon, while the lower half reimagines the celebrated fingertip motif with a reptilian claw reaching toward a human hand at the centre of a luminous ring marking the 20th anniversary. The deep black starfield gives the poster tremendous depth, and the cool blue E.T. logo glows beautifully against the darkness. It is an exceptionally displayable anniversary poster, combining nostalgia, spectacle, and one of the most beloved images in all of 1980s cinema.
