This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the 1971 release of Escape from the Planet of the Apes, the third film in the original Planet of the Apes series from 20th Century Fox. Directed by Don Taylor, it stars Roddy McDowall and Kim Hunter as chimpanzee scientists Cornelius and Zira.

Film background
After the cataclysmic ending of Beneath the Planet of the Apes, Cornelius and Zira escape Earth’s destruction by travelling back in time to 20th‑century Los Angeles. Initially treated as celebrities, the pair soon become targets once the authorities realise the future they come from. Mixing social satire with science‑fiction suspense, the film explores issues of fear, prejudice and predestination, and is a fan‑favourite entry in the franchise.

Poster design
The Japanese B2 artwork is dramatic and bold. Against a blazing red outer‑space backdrop, a sleek rocket streaks past a blue‑green Earth ringed with fire. In the foreground, large portraits of Cornelius and Zira in white astronaut suits stare directly at the viewer, emphasising their intelligence and emotion. Smaller vignettes show armed human soldiers, marching lines of troops and the apes’ arrival on a windswept shore. The red Japanese title text slices across the lower half of the poster, balanced by the English logo “Escape from the Planet of the Apes” and credit block.
