“Evita” (エビータ), Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1997, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) — T168

This is an original Japanese B2 poster produced for the 1997 Japanese theatrical release of Evita, Alan Parker’s lavish screen adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s musical. Starring Madonna, Antonio Banderas and Jonathan Pryce, the film combines musical spectacle with the story of one of Argentina’s most recognisable public figures.

Film background
Originally produced in 1996, Evita follows Eva Duarte’s rise from modest beginnings to fame as a performer and her marriage to Argentine president Juan Perón. Madonna plays Eva, with Antonio Banderas as Ché, the musical’s questioning narrator, and Jonathan Pryce as Perón.

Songs including “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” bring together the personal and political sides of Eva’s story. Parker’s expansive staging translates the musical into a cinematic world of crowded streets, grand interiors and intimate encounters.

Poster design
A striking golden photographic composition places Madonna and Banderas at the centre, with Madonna resting against his shoulder. Strong backlighting outlines their figures, while the softly textured background gives the image a warm, theatrical glow.

Below, a smaller silhouette of the pair dancing casts long shadows across a patterned floor. The Japanese title 「エビータ」, printed in deep burgundy above the black English title, anchors the lower left. Vertical Japanese promotional copy and the three leading actors’ names complete an elegant design with particular appeal for collectors of Madonna, film musicals and 1990s cinema.
