“One by One” (F1グランプリ 栄光の男たち), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1976 (film 1974/75), Formula One Documentary, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O875

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster produced for the first Japanese cinema release of Claude Du Boc’s landmark Formula One documentary One by One (F1グランプリ 栄光の男たち). The film was completed and first shown internationally in 1974–75, and it opened theatrically in Japan on 16 October 1976, immediately before the inaugural Formula One Japanese Grand Prix at Fuji Speedway.

Directed by Claude Du Boc and produced by Pete Leavell, One by One documents the extraordinarily dangerous world of early-1970s Formula One, combining race footage, crashes and interviews with some of the defining drivers of the period. Featured racers include Jackie Stewart, Niki Lauda, James Hunt, Emerson Fittipaldi, Ronnie Peterson, François Cevert, Peter Revson, Carlos Pace and Mike Hailwood, with narration by Stacy Keach and music by Stomu Yamash’ta. The original One by One was later re-edited and circulated under other titles, including The Quick and the Dead and Champions Forever: The Formula One Drivers, but this Japanese poster belongs to the original One by One theatrical presentation.

Poster design
A spectacular Japanese motorsport design centred on a red-and-white Marlboro / Texaco Formula One car charging directly towards the viewer, with an enormous field of Grand Prix cars stretching into the distance behind it. A huge stopwatch dial sweeps across the left side of the composition, transforming the image into an immediate visual expression of speed, timing and competition.

Across the top, the brightly coloured シネラマ / CINERAMA banner advertises the film’s premium Japanese presentation, accompanied by Deluxe Color / 6-channel stereo / 70mm wording. The Japanese theatrical presentation was notably enlarged for 70mm exhibition and promoted with multi-channel sound, giving the documentary the scale of a major cinematic event.

The enormous red F1グランプリ title dominates the lower half, followed by the blue 栄光の男たち — “Men of Glory.” Along the bottom runs a superb sequence of driver portraits, turning the sheet into a visual roll-call of the sport’s celebrated—and often tragically vulnerable—1970s generation.

The poster is particularly evocative because the Japanese release arrived in October 1976, during the explosion of Formula One interest surrounding Japan’s first World Championship Grand Prix at Fuji Speedway.

It is nearly 50 years old!

Condition
Excellent. The poster retains superb colour saturation, with the racing imagery, vivid red typography and blue-green circuit tones remaining exceptionally strong.
