“Face/Off” (フェイス／オフ), Original Japanese Movie Poster 1998, John Travolta / Nicolas Cage, B2 Size (c. 51 × 73 cm) — U39

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for the 1998 first Japanese release of Face/Off, directed by John Woo. Originally released in 1997, the film opened in Japan on 28 February 1998. This striking design combines monumental portraits of its two stars with shattered-glass imagery and an explosive action montage.

Starring John Travolta and Nicolas Cage, with Joan Allen, Gina Gershon and Alessandro Nivola, the film follows FBI agent Sean Archer and terrorist Castor Troy as a surgical procedure allows them to exchange faces and assume each other’s identities. Woo’s elaborately choreographed action gives this story of revenge and stolen identity its distinctive intensity, accompanied by a score by John Powell.

The upper section is dominated by enormous, closely cropped portraits of Travolta on the left and Cage on the right. Their watchful expressions and subdued colouring establish the central rivalry, while their names stretch across the top in bold Japanese lettering.

A bullet hole and radiating shattered-glass graphic unite the composition. Within the angular fragments, colour photographs show gunfire, tense encounters and a speedboat erupting through flames. The fractures divide and reconnect the two faces, providing a visual expression of the film’s themes of divided identity and unstable appearances.

The oversized red Japanese title, 「フェイス／オフ」, anchors the lower section, with white edging separating it from the dark background. Woo’s director credit appears immediately above, while the English “FACE/OFF” title and a detailed Japanese billing block complete the design.

The central promotional copy reads:
