This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1980 for Mike Hodges’s cult space opera Flash Gordon, starring Sam J. Jones, Melody Anderson, Max von Sydow (as the unforgettable Ming the Merciless), Ornella Muti, and Timothy Dalton. Produced by Dino De Laurentiis with a thunderous, hit soundtrack by Queen, the film embraces pulpy serial roots with lavish costumes, matte-painted worlds, and camp-glorious spectacle.

Design
A maximalist Japan-only montage: Ming’s looming visage fills the right field while Flash stands center in his red tank, ray-gun raised. The skies swarm with Hawkmen as the crystalline city of Mongo glows at left; vignettes of Dale, Aura, Barin, and Klytus ring the base.
