One of the most iconic posters in the Dollars Trilogy—and an extremely rare find as a first release in any condition.

This is an original Japanese poster, printed in 1966 (Shōwa 41) for the first Japanese theatrical release of Sergio Leone’s For A Few Dollars More (Japanese title: 夕陽のガンマン). First-release B2s were printed in far fewer numbers than the 1972 re‑issue; they surface only rarely—even in Japan. This is only the second copy we have handled. For perspective, over the past five years we have seen 30+ examples of the 1972 re‑release for sale, but less than 5 of the original 1966 first issue in more than seven years. The bottom‑right credit block confirms the year (Shōwa 41) and the United Artists logo on this poster differs from the later re‑release, making identification straightforward for collectors.

Design highlights: Leone’s second Dollars film didn’t need to show Eastwood’s face—his silhouette says it all. The Japanese artist frames the Man with No Name from behind against a blazing orange sunset, pink katakana title slashing across the poncho. It’s a bold, minimalist composition unique to Japan and among the most recognisable images from the trilogy.

Film notes: For a Few Dollars More (1965) stars Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef as rival bounty hunters, with Gian Maria Volonté as the villain and Klaus Kinski in support. Released in the U.S. in 1967, it is the second entry in Leone’s legendary “Dollars Trilogy.”

Condition: Unrestored, very good/excellent presentation. This poster was displayed at the time and shows tape remnants/marks from that original use; there is a small paper loss at the extreme top‑left corner (see additional imagery). Colors remain rich and the paper is strong with only light, age‑commensurate handling. Once framed, it will display beautifully. We have priced the piece to reflect its condition and extraordinary rarity.

It is over 58 years old.
Not a reproduction or reprint—the exact poster pictured is the one for sale.

Certificate of Authenticity included.
