“Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan” (13日の金曜日 PART 8 ジェイソンN.Y.へ), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1989, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O518
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1989 for the first Japanese theatrical release of Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (13日の金曜日 PART 8 ジェイソンN.Y.へ), directed by Rob Hedden and distributed in Japan by Paramount / UIP.
The film is the eighth entry in the Friday the 13th series, moving Jason from Crystal Lake onto a cruise ship bound for New York City and ultimately into the heart of Manhattan.
Film background
Part VIII follows a graduating high‑school class celebrating aboard a cruise liner that inadvertently dredges up Jason from the depths of Crystal Lake. As the masked killer butchers his way through the passengers, the surviving teens eventually reach New York, where Jason continues his rampage through alleys, subways and Times Square. While often remembered for its limited use of actual Manhattan, the film has become a cult favourite for its urban setting and late‑’80s neon vibe.
Poster design
The Japanese B2 focuses almost entirely on Jason as an outsized urban boogeyman. His weathered hockey mask looms over a glittering night‑time view of the Manhattan skyline, rendered in deep reds and blues, while his gloved hand grips a gleaming knife that cuts diagonally across the image. At the very top, a bold white tagline declares that “マンハッタンは、地獄に落ちた!” (“Manhattan has fallen into hell!”), underscoring the city‑under‑siege concept. The red, heavily textured title 「13日の金曜日 PART 8 ジェイソンN.Y.へ」 spans the lower portion of the poster, with the familiar Friday the 13th English logo and Paramount credit line running along the bottom edge.
