“From Russia with Love” (007 ロシアより愛をこめて), Original Re-Release Japanese Movie Poster 1972, B3 Size (37 × 53 cm) ZA1183
This is an original Japanese B3 theatrical poster printed in 1972 for the Japanese re-release of From Russia with Love, the second official James Bond film. Directed by Terence Young and starring Sean Connery, Daniela Bianchi, Robert Shaw, Lotte Lenya, Pedro Armendáriz, and Bernard Lee, it remains one of the key early Bond films and one of the strongest entries of the Connery era.
Film background
Originally released in 1963, From Russia with Love helped establish the Bond formula on an international scale. Compared with the more flamboyant later films, it is often admired for its tougher espionage atmosphere, Cold War intrigue, and relatively grounded suspense. Set across Istanbul, Venice, and the Orient Express, it is widely regarded as one of the most elegant and tightly constructed films in the entire series.
By the time of this 1972 Japanese re-release, Bond had already become a global institution. Japanese revival posters from this period are especially appealing because they capture the moment when the early Connery classics were being reintroduced to audiences as already legendary cinema.
Poster design
This is a striking and highly collectible Japanese design. The front is built around a large, moody image of Sean Connery and Daniela Bianchi, with Bond posed in profile holding a pistol while she stands beside him in a pale blue dress. Smaller inset images below add extra action and period intrigue, while the bold yellow 007 logo and red Japanese title give the lower section strong graphic impact.
What makes this piece especially interesting is the fully printed reverse. Rather than a plain back, it contains extensive Japanese text, cast and staff information, and a range of black-and-white stills. That makes it both a display poster and a fascinating piece of original Japanese campaign material. As with other smaller-format Bond posters from Japan, the combination of front artwork and editorial-style printed reverse gives it a distinctive charm of its own.
