“From Russia with Love” (ロシアより愛をこめて), 1972 Japanese Re-Release Movie Poster, Theatre-Used, B2 Size (c. 51 × 73 cm) O646
This is an original Japanese B2 poster issued in Japan for the 1972 theatrical re-release of From Russia with Love (1963), Terence Young’s classic second James Bond film—starring Sean Connery as 007, alongside Daniela Bianchi, Robert Shaw, Lotte Lenya, and Pedro Armendáriz. A cornerstone of the early Bond cycle, the film adapts Ian Fleming’s novel into a sleek Cold War espionage thriller—often cited by collectors and fans as one of the most purely “spycraft” Bond entries, balancing exotic locations, deception, and tightly staged action with the series’ emerging iconography.
Poster design
A bold, high-impact Japanese campaign that leans into danger, precision, and glamour. Connery’s intense close-up dominates the sheet, his Walther raised in the foreground, while a dramatic crosshair target locks onto a screaming figure above—instantly signalling assassination and pursuit. Around this central image, the design collages classic set-piece motifs: explosions at sea, pursuit craft, and a tense interior confrontation scene, all culminating in the unmistakable “Bond world” promise of action and intrigue. The typography is equally strong: the giant “007” anchors the lower half, while the vivid red Japanese title 「ロシアより愛をこめて」 delivers maximum visual punch. A striking period piece of Japanese Bond marketing, and an exceptionally displayable re-release variant.
