"Fun and Fancy Free" (こぐま物語/ミッキーの豆の木), Original Japanese Movie Poster 1948, Speed Size (approx. 25 × 57 cm) O343
This is an original Japanese Speed-size poster (スピード判, c. 25 × 57 cm) for Walt Disney’s anthology feature Fun and Fancy Free, pairing the stories Bongo (Japan title: こぐま物語) and Mickey and the Beanstalk (ミッキーの豆の木). Issued for the post-war theatrical release handled in Japan by Daiei (大映株式会社配給), the design also advertises the True-Life Adventure short Beaver Valley (ビーバーの谷) in the left panel—reflecting the era’s double-bill programming.
Design
A lively, hand-painted composition of Bongo balancing on a rolling log while the circus bear looms above; hearts float around the lovers at top. Lower right features Mickey, Donald, and Goofy from Mickey and the Beanstalk with the English title “Walt Disney’s Fun and Fancy Free” and Technicolor credit. The back is the classic “newspaper” program layout with story notes, cast/credit blocks, and feature write-ups—typical of Japanese Speed posters of the late-1940s/early-1950s.
Condition
Very Good overall for age: even age-toning, scattered foxing and small spots, light handling creases, minor edge nicks, and a few small stains to the reverse (see photos). Colors remain bright and the sheet presents beautifully.
