"Galaxy Express 999" (銀河鉄道999), Original Rare Japan National Railways Tie-Up Poster 1979, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA150

Sale price $300.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1979 for the first theatrical release of Galaxy Express 999—a scarce co-promotion with Japan National Railways (JNR) encouraging domestic rail travel (the famous “いい日 旅立ち / A Good Day to Set Out” campaign). Highly coveted among anime collectors, this special issue is double-sided: theatrical art on the front and JNR travel artwork and route map on the verso.

Design
Leiji Matsumoto’s icons in a star-rich night sky: Maetel’s luminous profile dominates at right while Tetsurō, Captain Harlock, and Queen Emeraldas stand before a futuristic city. The 999 locomotive streaks across the upper field; the bold title 「銀河鉄道999」 blazes overhead with a circular “いい日 旅立ち” JNR emblem. Reverse side features Matsumoto-style cartoons, campaign copy, and a detailed JNR network map—an unmistakable tie-in sheet from the original 1979 run.

Condition
Excellent. Colours remain strong with excellent display presence. Please review the photos—they show the exact poster for sale.
