"Gatchaman", Original Japanese Promotional Poster 1970s, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) N197

Sale price $125.00

This is an original Japanese B2 promotional poster issued in the 1970s to advertise Columbia Records’ music and soundtrack releases for Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (科学忍者隊ガッチャマン), one of Tatsunoko Productions’ most influential anime franchises. These Columbia-issued posters were produced in very limited numbers for promotional use in record shops and were never sold commercially, making surviving examples extremely rare.

Background
First airing in 1972, Science Ninja Team Gatchaman became a defining anime of the decade, known internationally under titles such as Battle of the Planets and G-Force. With its futuristic vehicles, environmental themes, and five-member superhero team, the series helped shape the “sentai” genre and influenced countless later works. The franchise has retained a lasting legacy through sequels, theatrical films, and international adaptations, making original memorabilia highly collectible today.

Poster design
The poster features a dramatic illustration by I. Kuri, with Ken the Eagle and Jun the Swan shown in close-up against a blazing yellow and orange backdrop. In the foreground, Joe the Condor charges forward, cape unfurled, weapon in hand, while a defeated enemy lies at his feet. The composition conveys both the intensity of the action and the bold, stylized design that made Gatchaman a classic. At the bottom margin, the Columbia Records logo and Tatsunoko Production credit confirm this as an official promotional issue.
