“Appleseed” (アップルシード), Original Release Japanese Home Video Poster 2004, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O504

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 2004 to promote the first DVD release of the CG animated feature Appleseed, based on Masamune Shirow’s classic cyberpunk manga and directed by Shinji Aramaki. Issued by Geneon Entertainment, the poster advertises the disc’s street date, 2004.11.25, and highlights both the standard DVD and the limited “Collectors Edition.”

Film background
Set in the post‑apocalyptic utopia of Olympus, Appleseed follows ESWAT operative Deunan Knute and her cyborg partner Briareos Hecatonchires as they uncover a conspiracy involving the city’s human population, bioroid administrators, and the Gaia supercomputer. One of the early showcases for cel‑shaded 3D animation in Japanese cinema, the film helped popularize large‑scale CG anime features in the mid‑2000s.

Poster design
The sheet presents a striking side‑profile portrait of Deunan in full tactical armor, with the imposing bulk of Briareos filling the background—both rendered in the film’s distinctive CG style. Across the top runs the bold tagline 「この映像が、映画の未来を変える。」 (“This imagery will change the future of film.”). Centered over the characters is the clean Roman title APPLESEED, with the katakana アップルシード beneath, followed by dense white copy detailing the DVD and Appleseed DVD Collectors Edition specs. Along the bottom, a vivid red campaign strip shouts 「2枚買って1枚GET!!」, explaining Geneon’s “buy two, get one free” DVD promotion, flanked by the Geneon logo and DVD/dts marks.
