“Ghost in the Shell – PROJECT 2501” (攻殻機動隊 PROJECT 2501), Original Japanese Promotional Poster 1996, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O102
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1996 for the retail promotional release of PROJECT 2501: The Real Image Collection of GHOST IN THE SHELL – Dialogue & Sound Effect, issued by LiPop Record / BMG Entertainment (catalog BVCH-1524; price ¥2,500) to coincide with the album’s 21 November 1996 street date. Scarcer than standard theatrical materials, these record-shop display pieces were printed in limited numbers.
Film background
Following Mamoru Oshii’s landmark 1995 feature, PROJECT 2501 compiled music cues, SFX (handguns, machine guns, etc.), and dialogue arrangements—offering an alternate, sound-driven “image album” experience within Masamune Shirow’s cyber-punk world, and expanding the franchise’s cross-media footprint in the late 1990s.
Poster design
Major Motoko Kusanagi is depicted mid-materialisation, pistol raised, cables and data shards streaming across a crimson digital sea. Bold bilingual typography frames the lower field—「攻殻機動隊」 and GHOST IN THE SHELL—above the large PROJECT 2501 lockup and the on-sale line 1996.NOVEMBER.21 ON SALE!!. Credits to Bandai Visual / Manga Entertainment run along the footer; artwork credits on the piece include 江面 久 and 北久保弘之. A striking, high-impact shop poster with superb wall presence.
