This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1989 for the first release of My Neighbor Totoro.
In this size this poster is very hard to come by and is in super high demand. It is the first time we have had this JR tie-up poster in our gallery. It is the first time that we have seen this poster in Japan for over 7 years even though it is our full time job to do so - this is how rare it is!
This poster is also in immaculate condition. Normally we provide an image of the front and the back of the poster. However, we have provided many additional images to show how good the condition of this poster is!! This poster requires no restoration or linen backing and is ready to be framed. There are very few opportunities to own a true piece of important cinema history in this state and when investing in Japanese posters, it is always best to invest in the best of the best.
There is currently a boom in reprints of this poster (mostly B2 size) flooding the market, and for sale right now as Ghibli has been producing these for the past two years officially. There are also many unofficial reprints flooding the market. Many of these are for sale as vintage originals online. This however, is 1000% an original, despite this, it is in almost mint condition. Studio Ghibli is undisputedly the most in demand Japanese animation export as is this movie poster - it is loved by collectors, one-off buyers and many other customers.

Hayao Miyazaki is widely regarded as one of the most influential anime directors, and My Neighbor Totoro is often considered his defining work. Like many of his films, it is primarily aimed at children but does not shy away from deep, emotional themes.
