This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1982 for the Japanese release of Heavy Metal (ヘビー・メタル), Gerald Potterton’s cult animated sci‑fi/fantasy anthology (based on Heavy Metal magazine) produced by Ivan Reitman and Leonard Mogel.
Poster design
An iconic fantasy illustration featuring the warrior heroine (sword raised overhead) riding a monstrous winged mount straight out of pulp sci‑fi myth—pure airbrushed spectacle. The metallic, ice‑blue Japanese title 「ヘビー・メタル」 slams across the bottom in huge, dimensional lettering, perfectly complementing the dramatic lighting and storm‑cloud backdrop. The primary artwork for the film’s key poster image is credited to celebrated fantasy illustrator Chris Achilleos.
