“Heidi, Girl of the Alps” (アルプスの少女ハイジ), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1979, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) N262

Sale price $125.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1979 for the theatrical release of Heidi, Girl of the Alps, distributed by Toho-Towa. Combining beloved animated characters with a spectacular photographic Alpine landscape, this is a wonderfully cheerful design that captures the story’s warmth and love of nature.

Film background
Based on Johanna Spyri’s classic novel, Heidi follows an orphaned girl who goes to live with her grandfather in the Swiss Alps. Her friendships with Peter and Clara, attachment to the mountains, and generous spirit form the heart of this enduring story.

The 1979 feature was assembled from the celebrated 1974 television animation, whose original creative team included Isao Takahata, Hayao Miyazaki, and character designer Yōichi Kotabe. Their work helped establish the expressive characters and richly observed natural world that made Heidi a favourite with audiences internationally.

Poster design
A joyful Heidi in her bright red dress runs barefoot towards the viewer, raising bunches of pink flowers. Peter, Joseph the dog, a young goat, and woodland animals accompany her against a sweeping photograph of mountain meadows and snow-covered Alpine peaks.

The contrast between the colourful animation and the detailed photographic scenery gives the composition its distinctive appeal. A pink “Johanna Spyri’s Heidi” heading sits against the blue sky, while the enormous red-and-yellow Japanese title fills the lower section. Rounded yellow and green borders complete the warm, inviting presentation.

Condition
Excellent. There is a visible horizontal fold, light handling creasing, and minor edge and surface wear. The reverse shows light age toning and a few small marks. The colours remain bright, and the poster presents beautifully. Please review the photos—they show the exact poster for sale.
