An original Japanese double-sided B1 theatrical advance poster for Hayao Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli feature Howl’s Moving Castle / ハウルの動く城.

Printed for the film’s original 2004 Japanese theatrical roadshow campaign, the design shows Sophie and Heen walking across a hillside, with Turnip-Head and Howl’s mechanical castle positioned above the ridge. This example is the less commonly encountered double-sided B1 format, with the reverse printed in mirror image for use in an illuminated cinema light box. Japanese B1 posters are considerably larger and scarcer than the more frequently seen B2 format.

Design Notes
The composition places Sophie prominently in the foreground, with Heen beside her and the castle visible at the top of the hillside. The open sky and rocky landscape give the image a strong sense of scale, while the smoking castle provides a contrast between the natural setting and the film’s mechanical fantasy world.
The large red Japanese title ハウルの動く城 appears across the lower section, with the English title HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE printed beneath. The lower border includes the original Japanese theatrical roadshow information for the film’s 2004 release.
At full B1 size, the poster has considerable visual presence and presents well when displayed.
