This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 2004 for Hayao Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli classic Howl’s Moving Castle (ハウルの動く城). Adapted from Diana Wynne Jones’s novel, the film features voice performances by Chieko Baishō (Sophie) and Takuya Kimura (Howl) with a luminous score by Joe Hisaishi. Distributed domestically by Toho, the film was selected for competition at the 61st Venice International Film Festival, where it received the Osella Award.

Film background
A meditation on love, aging, and pacifism, Howl’s Moving Castle blends hand-drawn craft with painterly digital color to create one of Ghibli’s most beloved fantasies. The film became a cultural touchstone in Japan and worldwide, influencing a new generation of animators and storytellers.

Poster design
A dramatic key-visual of Sophie fills the sheet in close-up, framed by drifting bubbles/tears. At right runs the resonant vertical tagline: 「未来で待ってて。私、きっと行くから。」 (“Wait for me in the future. I’ll come.”). The crimson brush title 「ハウルの動く城」 anchors the lower field above the small English slug HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE. A tiny vignette of Sophie and Calcifer glows at bottom center, while the credit stack carries Studio Ghibli/Toho marks and the Venice citation.
