“I Am Bruce Lee” / 「アイアム・ブルース・リー」, Original Japanese Movie Poster 2013, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) F254

Sale price $135.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the Japanese release of I Am Bruce Lee / 「アイアム・ブルース・リー」, the feature-length documentary exploring the life, philosophy, and enduring cultural legacy of Bruce Lee.

Released in Japan as part of a special programme commemorating the 40th anniversary of Bruce Lee’s passing, this poster is especially striking, with a vivid yellow ground, bold red brushstroke imagery, and a dynamic central image of Lee in mid-kick.

Film background
Originally released in 2012 and released theatrically in Japan in 2013, I Am Bruce Lee examines Bruce Lee’s extraordinary influence on martial arts, action cinema, popular culture, philosophy, and modern athletic performance.

Directed by Pete McCormack and produced by Derik Murray and Shannon Lee, the documentary combines archival footage, rare material, and interviews with family members, actors, athletes, and cultural figures. Interviewees include Kobe Bryant, Mickey Rourke, Manny Pacquiao, Dana White, Shannon Lee, Linda Lee Cadwell, and Jon Jones.

The film was widely appreciated by fans for its energetic pacing and its focus on Lee not only as a martial artist and screen icon, but also as a thinker, innovator, and global cultural figure.

Poster design
The Japanese poster uses a bold and highly graphic composition. Against a brilliant yellow background, Bruce Lee is shown in a powerful airborne kicking pose, printed in black-and-white over a large red brushstroke form evoking the character 竜 / dragon.

The design is direct, energetic, and immediately recognisable, using minimal colour but very strong contrast to capture Lee’s physical intensity and iconic silhouette.

The large vertical tagline at right reads:

「俺こそブルース・リーだ!!」
“I am truly Bruce Lee!”

The top text announces the commemorative release:

「没後40周年記念 2作連続公開!」
“A two-film consecutive release commemorating the 40th anniversary of his passing.”

The red vertical promotional text at left states:

「2012年米スパイクTVで放送され、同局史上最高の視聴者数を記録した傑作ドキュメンタリーが遂に日本上陸!」
“The acclaimed documentary, broadcast on Spike TV in the U.S. in 2012 and recording the network’s highest-ever viewership, finally arrives in Japan!”

The lower third is dominated by the large black Japanese title 「アイアム ブルース・リー」, with the English title I AM BRUCE LEE printed across it in white and red. The lower margin contains the production credits and interviewee names in compact black typography.

The overall design is bright, powerful, and highly evocative of modern Japanese theatrical poster art for martial arts and documentary cinema.
