This is an original Japanese STB tatekan theatrical poster for the 1970 Japanese release of The Blood of Fu Manchu, released as Onna Dorei no Fukushū, meaning “Revenge of the Female Slaves.” Over fifty years old, this complete two-sheet example combines ominous photographic imagery with towering red brush lettering.
Directed by Jess Franco and produced by Harry Alan Towers, the film stars Christopher Lee, alongside Richard Greene, Tsai Chin, and Maria Rohm. From a concealed South American jungle headquarters, Fu Manchu plots to eliminate his enemies using captive women whose kisses transmit a deadly poison. Nayland Smith must uncover the scheme and find an antidote. The film combines pulp adventure, crime, and horror within Lee’s series of Fu Manchu screen appearances.
Printed on two sheets arranged vertically, the design makes dramatic use of the tall tatekan format. A vast, shadowed profile outlined in violet dominates the upper background, while a brightly tinted photograph of a captive woman extends across the central join. Yellow and blue promotional lettering runs down the right side, providing a sharp contrast against the predominantly black composition.
The enormous red Japanese title 「女奴隷の復讐」 descends along the left side across both sheets, accompanied by the smaller pink English title “THE BLOOD OF FU MANCHU.” Below the central figure, a montage of armed men and chained captives leads into a separate photograph of a woman reclining behind heavy iron bars. A pale band with an irregular, torn-paper-style edge carries the Japanese credits and MGM presentation credit, separating the two photographic sections.
The prominent yellow tagline reads:
「鎖！縄！鞭！そして毒蛇！」
“Chains! Ropes! Whips! And venomous snakes!”
The Japanese title, confinement imagery, and sensational promotional copy place particular emphasis on the film’s exploitation elements. Its combination of bold calligraphy, dark photographic montage, and vivid colour accents makes this an especially appealing example for collectors of Christopher Lee, Jess Franco, European cult cinema, and Japanese exploitation poster design.
