This is an original Japanese theatrical promo poster for Journey’s 1983 concert film/documentary “Frontiers… and Beyond!”, directed by Phil Tuckett (NFL Films) and produced by Steve Sabol, chronicling the band at peak “Frontiers”-era fame (Steve Perry, Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Ross Valory, Steve Smith). The film is widely documented as an NFL Films production issued in 1983; Japanese video/distribution tie-ins later appeared domestically. 

Design

Electrified neon portrait of the “Frontiers” mask—the band’s signature sci-fi visage—radiating concentric color waves beneath a bursting JOURNEY logotype. Bold, tri-line title stack “JOURNEY / AMERICAN TOUR ’83 / FRONTIERS… AND BEYOND!” anchors the sheet; credits list the five-man lineup center-field. The Japanese catch-copy reads 「あなたが、2,000,001人目の観客だ！」 (“You are the 2,000,001st audience member!”). The imagery riffs on the Frontiers album visual language, whose artwork was designed by Jim Welch—a noted shift away from Mouse & Kelley on this LP. Lower margin shows © 1983 Nightmare, Inc. / NFL Films, Inc. and “TOEI VIDEO Proudly Presents.” An EIRIN approval mark with number is printed at lower left, confirming domestic theatrical handling. 

Cult status / film notes

Frontiers… and Beyond! is the definitive on-tour chronicle of Journey’s arena-rock zenith, filmed by the same storytelling team that myth-made NFL Sundays—Phil Tuckett and NFL Films—giving the documentary its dramatic, cinematic heft. The project is frequently cited as NFL Films’ crossover into music documentary, produced while the Frontiers album (released February 1983) dominated charts and airwaves. Japan maintained enduring demand for the title, later issuing domestic video editions. 

Size / printing

Unusual 51 × 65 cm “special” format—slightly shorter than standard B2 (51 × 73 cm)—printed on glossy stock for theaters and partner retailers. Lower credits read “TOEI VIDEO Proudly Presents.” EIRIN seal and approval number are present.

Condition

Excellent for age. Deep, unfaded inks and high-gloss surface with light wave/handling and the original machine folds typical of the era; minute edge touches only. Please review the photos—they show the exact poster for sale.
