"Kagemusha" (影武者), Original Japanese Movie Poster 1980, B3 Size (36 × 51 cm) O370
This is an original Japanese B3 poster printed in 1980 for Akira Kurosawa’s epic Kagemusha—the grand return of the master, produced by Kurosawa Production and Toho and winner of the Palme d’Or (1980, shared). Set amid the Sengoku era, the film follows a condemned thief forced to serve as the warlord Takeda Shingen’s double, exploring identity, power, and illusion on a monumental scale.
Design
A striking studio-red field frames a wide behind-the-scenes still of Kurosawa directing—seated at center while a full regiment of armor-clad samurai lines the background. The brush title 「影武者」 sits at left; the Toho crest and production credits at right. It’s an uncommon campaign piece celebrating the scale of Kurosawa’s set and his commanding presence on it.
