Sale price $120.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1986 for the first Japanese release of King Kong 2 (キングコング2)—the 1986 sequel to Dino De Laurentiis’s King Kong—featuring spectacular painted artwork by Noriyoshi Ohrai (生頼範義). Ohrai is one of the most celebrated illustrators in Japanese cinema and pop culture, renowned for his dynamic, high-detail poster art and legendary kaiju/sci-fi imagery—making this a standout trophy piece for collectors.

Film background
Released in 1986, King Kong 2 (internationally King Kong Lives) returns to the world of the De Laurentiis Kong universe, leaning hard into monster spectacle and high-adventure action. The Japanese campaign emphasised scale, destruction, and military confrontation—exactly the kind of “event” marketing that Japanese audiences associated with big imported creature features of the mid-1980s.

Poster design
A classic Ohrai showpiece: Kong towers over a battlefield under a glowing moon, rendered with painterly muscle and menace. Helicopters swarm, explosions rip through the foreground, and the entire composition is built as a crescendo of motion and fire—pure kaiju-scale energy translated into Western monster cinema. The giant white katakana title キングコング2 anchors the bottom with maximum impact, while the illustration’s detail rewards close viewing—one of those posters that feels alive on the wall.
