“Judgment at Nuremberg” (ニュールンベルク裁判 / Judgment at Nuremberg), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1962, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) — Ultra Rare (Style A) P198

Sale price $250.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1962 for the first Japanese release of Judgment at Nuremberg (ニュールンベルク裁判), Stanley Kramer’s monumental courtroom drama examining the legacy of the Nazi era through the post-war trials. Featuring an extraordinary cast including Spencer Tracy, Burt Lancaster, Richard Widmark, Maximilian Schell, Judy Garland, Marlene Dietrich, and Montgomery Clift, it remains one of the most powerful “issue films” ever produced—and a cornerstone of serious 20th-century cinema.

Film background
Released in 1961 internationally and issued in Japan in 1962, the film dramatises the Nuremberg Judges’ Trial—asking how guilt, responsibility, and complicity function inside systems of state power. Tracy plays the American judge presiding over the case; Lancaster is the defendant; Schell the defence attorney; Widmark the prosecutor. The film’s moral force comes from its refusal to simplify: it is both courtroom suspense and historical reckoning, built on unforgettable performances and Kramer’s committed, humanist filmmaking.

Poster design
A striking and very collectible Japanese “Style A” design dominated by a bold red field and a “faces-and-power” composition: Spencer Tracy’s stern portrait at centre radiates outward to the ensemble cast in circular frames, visually presenting the trial as a web of judgment and consequence. The title ニュールンベルク裁判 is rendered in huge white typography, with the English title “JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG” beneath. The lower imagery—spotlighted figure, industrial/trial symbolism, and a stark map motif—adds a sense of scale and historical gravity. It’s a superb example of early-1960s Japanese design applied to prestige American cinema.
