“La Boum” (ラ・ブーム), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1982, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) E24

Sale price $135.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the 1982 Japanese release of La Boum (ラ・ブーム), the beloved French romantic comedy-drama directed by Claude Pinoteau.

A defining coming-of-age film of early-1980s European cinema, La Boum introduced a new generation of viewers to a tender, youthful story of first love, family tension, friendship, parties, and adolescent self-discovery. In Japan, the film was promoted with an especially charming and romantic campaign image, centred on the excitement and vulnerability of teenage romance.

Film background
Originally released in France in 1980, La Boum became a major international success and later received its Japanese theatrical release in 1982. The story follows Vic, a Parisian teenager navigating school, friendship, parents, parties, and the emotional intensity of first love.

The film is especially remembered for its warm tone, natural youth culture atmosphere, and memorable soundtrack, including “Reality”, composed by Vladimir Cosma and performed by Richard Sanderson. Its mixture of innocence, romance, and fashionable early-1980s style made it a lasting favourite with audiences.

Poster design
This Japanese B2 poster is a highly attractive romantic montage. The central image shows a soft-focus party scene, with couples dancing and kissing under warm pink lighting. The design immediately captures the film’s atmosphere of youth, music, intimacy, and emotional awakening.

At upper left, the playful blue Japanese copy reads:

「ママ……わたし 今日キスしちゃった!」
“Mama… I kissed someone today!”

This line perfectly captures the film’s adolescent point of view: direct, innocent, and emotionally immediate.

Additional vertical copy reads:

「ソフィーは決意した。青りんご達は決意した。くちびるヨ!燃えろ!!」

A natural rendering is:

“Sophie made up her mind. The young green apples made up their minds. Lips — burn!”

The lower section is anchored by the large magenta Japanese title ラ・ブーム, designed with a soft, youthful graphic quality and a small flower-like accent. At bottom right, a small postcard-style LA BOUM logo adds a playful French touch, while the lower-left full-body image and circular portrait complete the charming promotional composition.

The overall design is unmistakably early 1980s: romantic, pastel-toned, fashionable, and full of youthful energy.
