This is an original Japanese theatrical programme / pamphlet issued for the first Japanese theatrical release of La Haine (憎しみ), Mathieu Kassovitz’s landmark black-and-white drama. Released in Japan on 17 February 1996 and distributed by Kuzui Enterprises, with the cooperation of Nippon Columbia, the programme formed part of the film’s original Japanese cinema campaign and bears the Chanter Ciné 3 imprint on its front cover.
La Haine (1995) is a French social drama written and directed by Mathieu Kassovitz, following approximately 24 hours in the lives of Vinz, Hubert and Saïd—three young friends living in a disadvantaged housing estate outside Paris following a night of violent confrontation with the police. Through its stark monochrome cinematography and tightly controlled narrative, the film examines social exclusion, police violence, racial tension and the destructive cycle of retaliation. Kassovitz received the Award for Best Director at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival, and the film remains a defining work of modern French cinema.
