“Indian Summer / La prima notte di quiete” (高校教師), Original Japanese Movie Poster 1973, Alain Delon / Valerio Zurlini, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) — A73A
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for the 1973 first Japanese release of Indian Summer, released locally as 高校教師 (High School Teacher). Produced in 1972 and distributed in Japan by Towa, the film opened in Japanese cinemas on 6 October 1973.
Directed by Valerio Zurlini, the film stars Alain Delon as Daniele Dominici, a disillusioned substitute teacher arriving in the coastal town of Rimini during winter. His involvement with a troubled student, played by Sonia Petrovna, becomes the centre of a tragic story about loneliness, desire and lives burdened by the past. Lea Massari, Giancarlo Giannini and Alida Valli feature in the supporting cast, with music by Mario Nascimbene.
The Japanese poster captures the film’s melancholy through two contrasting images. Across the lower portion, a large photographic portrait shows Petrovna embracing Delon, her arm wrapped around his shoulders. Both look beyond the frame, their guarded expressions lending the embrace a sense of uncertainty. Her pale trench coat and his textured outerwear give the image a distinctly autumnal warmth.
Above them, the composition opens into a cold blue harbour scene, with a solitary figure walking along a misty pier. Tall lampposts recede into the distance, while the waterfront disappears into the haze. This quieter image creates a striking contrast with the closeness of the couple below, bringing the film’s themes of intimacy and isolation into a single composition.
The sharp, pink-red Japanese title 「高校教師」 runs vertically down the upper left within a fine rectangular outline. Cast and production credits continue beneath it, accompanied by the original Italian title and Roman-letter billing along the left edge. The small Towa emblem anchors the bottom corner.
The promotional text running down the right margin reads:
「禁じられた《愛》の涙にきらめくドロンの新しい魅力!——名匠ズリーニが鮮烈な映像に描く文芸超大作!」
“A new side of Delon shines through the tears of forbidden love—a sweeping literary drama brought vividly to the screen by master director Zurlini!”
An atmospheric piece for collectors of Alain Delon, Valerio Zurlini and European cinema, combining an intimate star portrait with the muted coastal imagery central to the film’s mood.
