This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for the 1968 Japanese release of Trap for Cinderella, originally titled Piège pour Cendrillon. Released in Japan by Towa, this striking design combines closely cropped portraits, disorienting architectural photography, and contrasting red and teal typography.
Directed by André Cayatte, the 1965 psychological thriller stars Dany Carrel, Madeleine Robinson, and Hubert Noël, supported by Jean Gaven and René Dary. Adapted from Sébastien Japrisot’s novel, the story follows a young woman who survives a devastating fire but loses her memory. As she investigates her past, conflicting accounts leave her uncertain of her identity and her involvement in the events surrounding the fire.
Printed on one B2 sheet, the composition places a tightly grouped arrangement of faces across the top, dominated by Dany Carrel’s searching gaze. A smaller seated figure overlaps the pale title panel beneath, while the Towa logo appears in the upper-right corner. These repeated figures and watchful expressions establish an atmosphere of uncertainty.
The lower section centres on a spiralling stairwell seen in steep perspective, its receding curves creating a powerful sense of disorientation. An embracing couple fills the lower right, while a smaller scene on a red divan appears at the bottom left. Across the centre, 「シンデレラの」 is printed in sweeping crimson lettering beside an oversized, roughly brushed teal 「罠」, meaning “trap.” The original French title appears in white beneath the stairwell.
The promotional copy above the title reads:
「私はこの事件で探偵です。また証人です。そして被害者です。その上犯人なのです。………四人全部なのです。」
“I am the detective in this case. I am also the witness. And the victim. What is more, I am the culprit… I am all four.”
The combination of unsettling perspective, intimate photography, and expressive lettering gives this poster a distinctive presence.
