"Laputa: Castle in the Sky" (天空の城ラピュタ), Original Japanese First-Release Promotional Poster 1986, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O342
This is an original Japanese promotional B2 poster printed in 1986 for the first theatrical release of Hayao Miyazaki’s Laputa: Castle in the Sky (天空の城ラピュタ). Issued by Nibariki / Tokuma Shoten for domestic publicity and distributed as a promotional piece (not an in-cinema movie poster), it’s scarcer than the standard theatrical sheets and highly collectible among early Ghibli materials.
Design
Delicate watercolor concept art of Pazu and Sheeta with doves in flight and Laputa floating at right—an airy, sketchbook style that evokes Miyazaki’s own layout boards. English header “Laputa – the Castle in the Sky” appears at upper left; across the lower field runs a typewritten English synopsis, with a compass-stamp motif naming Pazoo / Sheeta / Dora / Muska. Lower-right credits read © 二馬力・徳間書店 500 A / movic, with a green LAPUTA campaign seal—details that confirm an original 1986 promotional issue on speckled cream stock. Factory display punch-holes are present around the margins, typical of shop-issued MOVIC promos.
Condition
Very good to excellent overall: light handling and mild waviness/pressing tracks from prior storage; clean colours and strong presentation. Please review the photos—they show the exact poster for sale.
