"Latitude Zero" (緯度0大作戦), Original Japanese Re-Release Speed Poster 1974, Speed Poster Size (c. 25 cm × 73 cm) O724
This is an original Japanese Speed Poster (スピードポスター) printed in 1974 for a Japanese re-release of Toho’s sci-fi adventure Latitude Zero (緯度0大作戦), directed by Ishirō Honda. Speed posters were designed for narrow theatre display spaces and were produced in much smaller quantities than standard B2s—making surviving examples increasingly hard to upgrade.
Design
A superb piece of Showa-era graphic design: huge, brush-stroked magenta title characters 緯度0大作戦 dominate the sheet like a billboard, set against a crisp sky-to-sea gradient of blues. The imagery sells the film’s techno-fantasy hook—sleek submersible craft, divers in open water, and futuristic vehicles—while the right-side vertical copy hypes the undersea war / super-science spectacle. The result is pure Toho corridor-impact: bold type, clean negative space, and just enough sci-fi detail to pull you in.
