“Le Mans / The Thomas Crown Affair” (栄光のル・マン/華麗なる賭け), Original Japanese Revival Movie Poster c. 1980s, Steve McQueen Special / TAG Heuer, B2 Format (c. 51 × 73 cm) — M120

Sale price $150.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical revival poster for Le Mans and The Thomas Crown Affair, presented together under the heading “TAG Heuer Presents Steve McQueen Special.” Distributed by Japan Herald Films, with special sponsorship from TAG Heuer Japan and cooperation from CUT magazine, the campaign celebrates two contrasting sides of McQueen’s screen persona.

Directed by Lee H. Katzin, Le Mans (1971) places McQueen in the world of endurance racing. Norman Jewison’s The Thomas Crown Affair (1968) pairs him with Faye Dunaway in a stylish crime romance centred on a wealthy bank robber and the insurance investigator pursuing him. Together, the films showcase his appeal as both a committed competitor and a sophisticated screen antihero.

Printed on one B2 sheet, the design uses large blocks of yellow, orange-red, and black to frame two bold photographic portraits. The upper section shows McQueen in his Le Mans racing suit, with the Heuer and Gulf patches clearly visible. The sharply contrasted black-and-white treatment gives the portrait an almost stencil-like appearance against the yellow background.

The lower section presents McQueen wearing sunglasses and a suit, holding large money bags, one prominently marked “Bank.” Between the portraits, the Japanese titles 「栄光のル・マン」 and 「華麗なる賭け」 appear in yellow and orange-red respectively. Fine vertical lines carry these colours through the black panels, while compact credits identify each film.

The campaign heading reads:

“TAG Heuer Presents”
“Steve McQueen Special”

The sponsorship also connects the poster to McQueen’s association with the blue-dial Heuer Monaco chronograph worn in Le Mans, an enduring reference in the watchmaker’s history. The watch used in the film carried the Heuer name; TAG Heuer is the sponsor credited on this later revival poster.

The combination of bold colour, paired portraits, and prominent watch-brand sponsorship makes this an appealing piece for collectors of Steve McQueen, motorsport cinema, TAG Heuer memorabilia, and Japanese theatrical revival posters.

Condition: Excellent. Light handling creases are visible, particularly toward the lower portion. The colours remain strong and the main imagery presents clearly.
