"There Are Still Slaves in the World (Le schiave esistono ancora)" (鎖の大陸), Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1964, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA4
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1964 for Le schiave esistono ancora (literal: “Slaves Still Exist”) — an Italian investigative documentary on the modern slave trade, directed by Folco Quilici and Roberto Malenotti. Released in Japan by Nippon Herald, the film traces trafficking routes across Africa and the Middle East, confronting audiences with first-hand reportage of caravans, markets, and forced migration.
Design
A blistering graphic layout in searing red and black: a halftone close-up of a child’s face wrapped by a shackled arm dominates the right side, while a map diagram charts routes from Mali / Niger / Chad / Sudan across the Red Sea toward Saudi Arabia. At upper left, a procession of captives and camel riders advances in silhouette. The bold canary-yellow title 「鎖の大陸」 (“Continent of Chains”) is slashed across the base, paired with the Italian logotype LE SCHIAVE ESISTONO ANCORA and the Herald roundel — a powerful piece of 1960s social-issue design.
