“Logan’s Run”, Original First Release Japanese Movie Poster 1976, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) P277

Sale price $135.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1976 for the first Japanese theatrical release of Logan’s Run, the ambitious MGM science-fiction adventure directed by Michael Anderson and starring Michael York, Jenny Agutter, Richard Jordan, and Peter Ustinov. Based on the novel by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson, the film became one of the defining dystopian SF spectacles of the 1970s, and this Japanese first-release poster is a superb example of the era’s bold, imaginative science-fiction design.

Film background
Released in 1976, Logan’s Run imagines a future society built on youth, pleasure, and total control, where life itself is terminated at thirty in the name of social order. When Logan, an elite enforcer of the system, is forced to flee, the film opens out into a striking mixture of dystopian fantasy, chase thriller, and grand speculative adventure. With its domed city, ritualised futurism, and warning against authoritarian utopias, the film remains one of the most recognisable studio science-fiction productions of its decade.

Poster design
This Japanese design is fantastically vivid and highly displayable. Against a deep starfield, a brilliant rainbow arc rises over the gleaming futuristic domes of the city, while the fleeing central couple run across the foreground, giving the sheet both scale and movement. The huge yellow-and-white title 2300年未来への旅 slams across the lower half with tremendous impact, and the overall composition perfectly captures the film’s mix of wonder, danger, and cosmic spectacle. It is exactly the kind of colourful, optimistic-yet-ominous 1970s sci-fi poster that looks exceptional framed.
