This is an original Japanese B1 theatrical poster printed in 1995 for the first release of Love Letter (ラヴレター), written and directed by Shunji Iwai and starring Miho Nakayama and Etsushi Toyokawa. Now regarded as one of the defining modern Japanese romances, Love Letter is celebrated for its quiet emotional precision, winter atmosphere, and its unforgettable meditation on memory, grief, and first love.

Love Letter follows Hiroko (Nakayama), who cannot move on after the death of her fiancé Itsuki Fujii. On impulse she sends a letter to his old address—only to receive a reply, beginning an unexpected correspondence that gradually opens a second story: adolescence, identity, and the way the past echoes into the present. The film’s reputation has only grown over time, and it remains one of the most sought-after titles among considering collectors of 1990s Japanese cinema.

Design
This B1 campaign artwork is pure elegance: a minimalist portrait of Miho Nakayama in profile, her face lifted into pale winter light as small snow-like flecks drift across the image. The warm orange Love Letter title typography anchors the lower half, with the starring credits set cleanly beneath. The negative space and soft gradient background give the poster a calm, gallery-like presence—quietly powerful, and even more impactful in the large B1 format.

Rarity
Japanese B1 posters were printed in far smaller numbers than standard B2s, and this title is notoriously high demand among collectors due to the film’s lasting cultural status. Original first-release B1 examples are seldom seen on the market, making this an outstanding centrepiece for any modern Japanese cinema collection.

Condition
