This is an original Japanese speed poster printed in 1970 for the first Japanese release of MASH.
Robert Altman’s anti-war black comedy follows the irreverent surgeons of the 4077th during the Korean War, spearheaded by Hawkeye and Trapper John. Winner of the Cannes Grand Prix and the Academy Award for Best Screenplay, the film became a cornerstone of New Hollywood satire.
Poster design
Iconic peace-sign “legs” wearing heels and a GI helmet—an audacious image that distilled the film’s subversive tone. Vibrant block lettering “MAS*H” cascades diagonally with Japanese titling flanking the composition, while the ensemble vignette anchors the base. A bold, witty layout that displays brilliantly in the tall speed format.
It is over 55 years old!
