This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster issued in 1973 for Mein Kampf (わが闘争), Erwin Leiser’s 1960 Swedish documentary examining Adolf Hitler’s rise to power, Nazi rule, and the destruction of the Second World War. The poster carries the Towa distributor’s logo and credits Eitarō Ozawa as the Japanese-language narrator.

Film background

Using archival footage, Leiser’s documentary traces the emergence of National Socialism, its machinery of propaganda and persecution, and the war that culminated in Germany’s defeat. Its historical account confronts the relationship between mass persuasion, dictatorship, and organised violence.

The Japanese campaign presents the film as an examination of Hitler’s crimes. The poster’s numbered captions outline subjects including Nazi rallies, the invasion of Poland, the Warsaw ghetto, Auschwitz, the fighting at Stalingrad, the Normandy landings, and the Nuremberg trials.

Poster design

A large illustrated portrait of Hitler occupies the centre, surrounded by overlapping photographic panels. Their tilted arrangement creates a dense montage of political rallies, marching troops, military operations, and the victims of Nazi persecution.

The photographs are treated in red, ochre-yellow, and blue, giving the archival material a sharply contrasted graphic character. Smaller cut-out figures overlap the central portrait and surrounding text, connecting the separate scenes across the composition.
