“Moonraker” / 「007/ムーンレイカー」, Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1979, James Bond / Roger Moore, 70mm Cinema-Used Sticker, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) A265

Sale price $195.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for Moonraker / 「007/ムーンレイカー」, printed in 1979 for the film’s first Japanese theatrical release.

Directed by Lewis Gilbert and starring Roger Moore as James Bond, Moonraker is the eleventh official 007 film and one of the franchise’s most spectacular entries, sending Bond from Venice and Rio de Janeiro into outer space.

This example is especially interesting because it retains a bold “70mm” cinema-use sticker applied to the front, indicating theatrical exhibition use and adding a distinctive piece of provenance. This has been taken into account when pricing.

Film background
After the space shuttle Moonraker is mysteriously hijacked, MI6 sends Bond to investigate industrialist Hugo Drax, whose aerospace empire built the missing craft. The trail leads Bond across Europe and South America, where he teams up with CIA agent Dr. Holly Goodhead and faces the returning steel-toothed henchman Jaws.

Drax’s plan is one of the most extravagant in the Bond series: to launch a hidden fleet of space shuttles, poison Earth from orbit, and repopulate the planet with a hand-picked elite. Mixing traditional espionage with late-1970s space spectacle, Moonraker became one of the most visually ambitious Bond films of the era.

Poster design
This Japanese B2 poster showcases the dynamic painted artwork by Daniel Goozee in a tall, densely packed action composition.

At the centre, Roger Moore’s Bond advances in a silver space suit, laser gun drawn, standing on a futuristic space-station platform. Around him are glamorous space-station attendants, while above, Drax’s vast orbital structure frames a star-filled battle scene with shuttles, astronauts, lasers, and deep-space action.

The returning villain Jaws lunges forward near the upper right, while the surrounding imagery sells the film’s central hook immediately: James Bond in space.

A large 007 gun-logo dominates the lower left, while the red Japanese title 「ムーンレイカー」 stretches boldly across the bottom. The vertical red copy at upper left promotes the film as a monumental entertainment epic, and the right-side text highlights the film’s status as the latest 11th James Bond adventure.

The applied “70mm” sticker is a particularly appealing period detail. Rather than detracting from the poster’s history, it reinforces its original cinema context and suggests use in connection with a premium large-format theatrical presentation.
