An original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for the 1996 Japanese release of Mute Witness, written and directed by Anthony Waller and starring Marina Zudina, Oleg Yankovsky, and Fay Ripley. Distributed in Japan by Cable Hogue, the film opened on 6 April 1996.

Set in Moscow, the suspense thriller follows Billy Hughes, an American makeup artist who cannot speak. Accidentally locked inside a film studio after hours, she witnesses an apparent murder being filmed and becomes the target of those determined to silence her. The cast also includes a special appearance by Alec Guinness.

The Japanese design presents the film through an elaborate surrealist illustration. A giant open mouth, with richly textured purple lips and visible upper teeth, frames an architectural courtyard, creating an unsettling visual connection between silence, danger, and the act of witnessing.

Within this enormous mouth, buildings rise around a central rectangle of star-filled darkness. Their exaggerated perspective draws the viewer into the composition, while shuttered windows, billowing curtains, and glowing interiors suggest hidden activity beyond the surrounding walls.

A shaded table lamp and dense foliage occupy the left side. Elsewhere, small figures in hats and overcoats appear beneath a streetlight and beside a parked car, introducing details of pursuit and surveillance into the dreamlike setting.

The red English title MUTE WITNESS descends diagonally through the artwork, followed by pale yellow Japanese lettering. The contrast between the angular typography, intricate architecture, and organic framing gives this design particularly strong visual character.

Condition: Excellent. Light handling creases and minor edge wear, particularly along the side margins. The illustration retains rich colours, clear detail, and excellent overall display appeal.
